The West Bengal Assembly Elections 1982 were held in May. The Congress (I) and the Congress (S) fought the 1982 West Bengal Vidhan Sabha polls in the alliance. Notably, Congress (S) or Congress (Secular) was formed through a split in the Indian National Congress. Initially, the party was known as the Indian National Congress (Urs).
