Dr Jia Dehuan, Li’s physician at Zhengzhou Eighth People’s Hospital, described her condition as a “wooden” figure characterised by immobilisation, unresponsiveness, and withdrawal from reality. Dr Jia diagnosed Li with a catatonic stupor, a severe symptom of depression often triggered by intense emotional trauma or stress. He noted that Li’s introverted personality and difficulty in opening up to others contributed to her severe condition.
Under Dr. Jia’s care, Li received the necessary treatment and support to recover. The incident has sparked widespread concern and debate on Chinese social media, with users expressing shock and sympathy for Li’s ordeal and outrage over workplace bullying and stress.
